Over the past few days I have heard and read about terrific acts of personal and corporate charity toward those in Japan. Microsoft, Amazon and others in the Northwest stepped up immediately in monetary and non-monetary ways.
Today it was announced that Ichiro, the famed Mariner outfielder, donated $1.3M to the Japanese Red Cross. At first the number struck me as odd…why $1.3M? That, however, is not the point. It’s just the quirky number that made me pause and reflect how charitable people can be. It also occurs to me that most people contribute in various ways and never expect to be noted in the paper for their kindness.
